Original gouache by Jef de Wulf
Editions de l’Arabesque. Edmond Nouveau)
"Espionnage" Collection
Large format in very good condition
In the majority of the early original drawings I have presented to you or that have already been sold, the drawings were surrounded by collages made or removed later (normal steps for originals before printing)
It seems evident that the studio assembly with all of this and others stopped around the first quarter of 1964.
The originals will be photographed and worked in offset with a newer method.
As proof, the following numbers will be similar, more refined and brighter, even though the charm of the construction of a cover is quite appealing.
Beautiful original gouache 29 x 40 cm in superb condition.

The following photo shows, for reference, the cover of the published layout, taken from a superb work on the Arabesque and Jef de Wulf created by collectors, journalists, writers, and others. Marcel Chaney, my best friend, was its coordinator, but sadly he passed away in 2011 before it could be completed; the edition was nearing completion. In the table of contents, you can see the left column that was already ready and the right column to come: this volume, published in 11 copies (none are for sale), already had 360 pages filled with documentation and incredible illustrations.
The originals had been purchased from the publisher, and I was waiting for the release of this work of over 500 pages to display them.
I have kept them carefully for over 20 years, and now I will gradually offer you a part of them, everything was in perfect condition and has been preserved under protective blisters. The books corresponding to the originals here come from "our" book PIN-UP and BAD BOYS (over 1000 covers)
Jef de Wulf is an illustrator and designer.
Born to a Belgian father and an English mother, after studying at the Fine Arts School in Nice, he moved to Paris at the age of 23.
His greatest contribution was made with Editions de l’Arabesque (Edmond Nouveau) for whom he worked for about fifteen years.
Alongside this, he managed a photographic studio until 1968, then was responsible for the photo service in a major provincial newspaper until his retirement. He passed away on September 21, 1994, in Aubenas.
For twenty years, between 1948 and 1968, Jef de Wulf composed hundreds of covers for popular novels, ranging from crime to science fiction, adventure to erotica.
Editions Arabesque (Edmond Nouveau) "Espionnage" Collection
From issue #63, Jef de Wulf succeeded Aslan for the illustrations in this collection.
This would lead to over 420 covers until 1968.
